Virginia L Small

Hello. I do the website for the Pen Women here at the Denver branch. I am a former member, but I am still very much invested in this organization. Glad to meet you.

I am a writer, illustrator, cartoonist, craft person and website creator. I consider myself a griot and a storyteller. I use many mediums to tell a story.

I have a BFA, from the School of Visual Arts, an MA from UIS, and a certificate in multimedia design from Sessions school of design. I am also a perpetual student in the Sequential Arts Workshop: a graphic arts and comics school based in Florida.

For several years I ran a gallery here in Colorado for talented artists with disabilities. I have been featured in several newspaper articles and have had TV appearances dealing with albinism. I was also on the board of directors for a national albinism organization.

I have been walking around with a pencil in my hand since the age of about seven. I drew on everything. My mother would tell me to put the pencil down, and I would. But in 10 minutes another one would take its place.

I have been published in, several anthology books from the Sequential Arts Workshop (SAW). I’ve also illustrated several picture books, and have been working on my own pieces.
