Meeting Minutes
July 5, 2014
- Andrea Antico called the meeting to order at 10:10 AM.
- Members in attendance were: Andrea Antico, Sophia Baldwin, Eleanor Binnings, Beverly Chico, Kelly Ann Compton, Florence Elliott, Jody Hinrichs, Marie Kriss, Nancy Peterson, Juanita Pope, Virginia Small, Kay Taylor, and Sheila Wright.
- Lorraine Walker Williams from the NLAPW Florida Branch also attended.
- The June Minutes were approved as written.
- The June Treasurer’s Report was accepted. Our current balance is $2,732.13.
- Committee Reports:
- The Blog Project: The topic for June/July is “Mistakes.” So far we have three blogs on this topic.
- Website: Virginia’s computer has been down for a few weeks, but she is up and running now.
- Membership, Auditor, Budget:
- The 2014-2015 budget was approved last month.
- All the new member applicants have been accepted by National.
- Tapestry for Peace: Kriss spoke with Jamie Tate and the new art director about the tapestry. She also spoke with the editor of Pen Woman Magazine. They will be giving us space in the fall issue. One of National’s suggestions was to send letters to all the NLAPW branches about the need for a permanent home for the tapestry. One of the women at National has connections with the Smithsonian. Kriss will look into this possibility.
- Programs: Our August meeting will be held at the Eloise May Library. Our speaker will be Lorraine Walker Williams from the Florida Branch. Her topic is TBA. Lorraine may also be our speaker at the October meeting.
- Outreach Projects: The Dakota Ridge Craft Fair takes place in October. Ann Klaiman has been trying to contact the people in charge, but has been unsuccessful so far.
- Inspirational Reading: Juanita shared a quote of Thomas Edison’s. “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

- Announcements:
- Beverly Chico’s sister will be in town in February and will give a talk about the Library of Congress.
- Steve Riplin, a copyright lawyer, said he would be glad to speak at one of our m meetings.
- Nancy was a finalist in the 2014 New Generation Indy Book Awards in the First Novel category. She has also received a great review on Amazon.com comparing her book Not to Be Forgiven to The Book Thief.
- The meeting was adjourned at 10:48.
Following the business meeting, Beverly took us on a tour of her Hats and Headwear exhibit in the Regis University Dayton Memorial Library. Thank you, Beverly for the many very interesting stories of hats in your collection.
