9:37- Meeting was called to order
9:40 – Inspirational reading by Andrea Antico on variations of “Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover”.
9:45 – Introduction of guest Maria Martinez, poet, migrant worker, award-winning teacher, publisher of an article in a national magazine, who is writing a trilogy on facing many challenges in her upbringing, school, and job experiences.
Minutes: Minutes from the January meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: President, Diane Chambers, read the treasurer’s report in Kelly Ann’s absence. There was no income reported for the last month. Under expenses, $50 was paid for January’s speaker. The current balance of our account is $499
The treasurer’s report was approved.
Website: It’s up-to-date. Statistics show returning visitors. Remember to send biological information to Virginia Small for posting.
Budget: No report on the budget this month.
Membership: Diane reported that some of our guests have shown interest in joining, but as of yet we have no new members. Some interest in our branch is coming from our postings on the “Colorado Writers’Cafe.”
Diane said that the newly revised flyer has been sent out to all the members and encouraged us to print copies and distribute them in places where they might attract women writers to our Pen Women branch.
Tapestry: How to transport it to Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs was discussed. Ray and/or Atlanta will be happy to transport it once the receiving organization finalizes its plans. It will fit in a bike box.
Programs: Mary Malensky will speak in March about Amazon and the many ways to understand some of its confusing policies. Karen Gonzalez will contact a fantasy fiction serial writer as a possible guest speaker in April.
Old Business: An updated directory is coming soon. Check that your info is correct on the one that was sent out this week.
Diane passed along an inquiry from Linda who was not able to attend, about printing the Interview Book of our members. Ray promised to research some options for printing. Atlanta and Ann offered suggestions for archiving the book at the Denver Public Library with our other files there.
New Business: There was no new business.
Announcements: Ray reported that his 2005 book was chosen by a book club.
Maria’s 3rd book is about her struggles to keep a job from which she was unfairly released. The case is now back in court; reopened and filed under equity.
Ann showed us the Valentine card, created by herself and her husband.
Diane Reported that her book, Words in My Hands: A Teacher, A Deaf-Blind Man, An Unforgettable Journey, has been chosen by a book club.
10:30: Meeting Adjourned
Ray presented a very interesting session on the importance of a good book cover.
