National League of American Pen Women—Denver Branch

January 6, 2024 Minutes

  1. Linda Volin called the meeting to order at 9:35am.
  2. Members in attendance: Diane Chambers, Atlanta Sheridan, Linda Volin, Andrea Antico, Karen Gonzales, Eleanor Binnings, Sue Luxa, Rachel Seekamp, Kelly Ann Compton, Carol Ehrlich, Ann Klaiman and Guests: Jan Stephen and Abbi Kaplan
  3. Andrea Antico provided the inspirational reading.
  4. December Minutes: Diane motioned to approve the Minutes. Kelly Ann seconded. All in favor.
  5. Treasurer’s Report: Kelly Ann reported a balance of approximately $680.00.
    1. Diane reported Aleta may join in next couple months when the dues cycle comes up.
    2. Website report submitted by Virginia Small and read by Linda: As stated last month, the site was updated to version 6.1.1. This proved to cause a problem and the site had to be temporarily downgraded to a previous version. The issue has been fixed and the site is now up to date with version 6.1.1. There are no other issues to report. The site is working properly.
    3. Karen Gonzales scheduled all reoccurring meetings and needs to remember to start Record to record meetings on Zoom at the beginning.
    4. Critique Group: Meets every other Friday from 4:30-6:30pm on Zoom. Six are in the group and you must be a Pen Women member. Submit your writing for critique for written comments from group.
    5. Tapestry: Outreach is still necessary to find homes for the tapestry. The video on the website can be shown at a future meeting.
    6. Cindy was not present for the budget report.
    7. Historian position is still available.
    8. Program presenters have been recruited by Rachel.

February 3 – Tracee Garner on Getting Your Book Out. A presenter is needed for March.

April 6 – Dr. Irene Blea on Integrating Diversity in Our Writing.

Karen suggested a presentation on contracts for royalties from your books after you die. She will try to locate a presenter.

Karen suggested a Guest Critique for June in person. Rachel will check on a clubhouse. If Andrea hasn’t moved, her clubhouse is a possibility since that’s where it has been held in the past.

  1. A writing contest or project related to art or writing was discussed. Andrea will check with a school.
  1. New Business: Linda mentioned the online National Pen Women meeting and the Biennial on April 26-28th.
  2. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30AM.
