February 1, 2025 Meeting Minutes

  1. Linda called meeting to order at 9:35am.
  2. Members in attendance: Linda Volin, Diane Chambers, Karen Gonzales, Atlanta Sheridan, Eleanor Binnings, Ann Klaiman, Kelly Ann Compton, Rachel Seekamp, Carol Ehrlich, Karen Gladstone, Laurel Becker, Sue Luxa and Guest: Yvonne Liu
  3. No inspirational message since Andrea Antico was not present.
  4. January Minutes were approved. All in favor.
  5. Kelly Ann reported she hadn’t prepared the Treasurer’s Report. In January the Meet Up fee was paid. She will send one check to the presenter for the January and February presentations.
  6. Committee Reports:
    1. Website report from Virginia Small noted the site has been updated, and is working properly; 94% of our visitors were new and 54% of visitors used a desktop, 43% used a mobile device, and the remaining 3% used a tablet. Linda reported finding a Denver Pen Women facebook page. Rachel couldn’t create one.
    2. Eleanor reported Critique Group met. Laurel will join. It meets every two weeks and two writers submit work to be critiqued. There are six members, but they take up to eight.
    3. Historian: Sue was not present, but mentioned she will get Historian information from Aurora.
    4. Membership: Diane received 6 inquiries from meet-up and they were invited to the meeting. Adrian Voss should be thanked for suggesting Meet Up.
    5. Sue connected with Diane and has two tapestries. She will contact President of Windcrest to show the tapestries to. She hasn’t heard about the spring craft fair. She will check with the kitchen for tea at Windcrest for a Saturday or Monday in June. The writers group meets there on Mondays. She will invite them to the tea with the objective to see if they want to be members of Denver Pen Women. They usually put out a thought and write about it. Sue received the Pen Women documents from Aurora. Karen mentioned that DPL has the Western History collection, now called Special Collections and Archives. Karen mentioned the America250/Colorado 150 celebrations in 2026.
    6. Rachel mentioned Virginia Small may present in April. Sue suggested Author Patricia Rabon and she will check with her on writing discipline presentation. Karen mentioned she presented in the past.

February – Unlocking Secrets of Magazine Writing

March – Writing for the Magical Community

April – Virginia may present on illustration

  1. Announcements: Linda mentioned the Vinnie Ream competition is in the Pen Women Magazine and can view it online NLAPW website. There will be another National Zoom meeting. Linda will send out the information.
  2. Meeting adjourned at 10:23am.

Kerrie Flanagan presented at 10:30am on How to Write and Sell Magazine Articles.
