August 3, 2024 Minutes

  1. Linda called the meeting to order at 9:33 AM.
  2. Members present: Karen Gladstone, Linda Volin, Sue Luxa, Diane Chambers, Andrea Antico, Rachel Seekamp, Eleanor Binnings, Ann Klaiman, Kelly Ann Compton, Karen Gonzales
  3. Guests present: Anita Jepson-Gilbert (from Columbine Poets re Poetry-To-Go Contest); Guests present for the program: Charlene Simms, Mercedes Hernandez, Florence Ramos.
  4. Inspirational Readings: Andrea read quotes from crime and punishment authors.
  5. Minutes: The May 2024 minutes were approved as written.
  6. Treasurer Report:
    1. Our current balance is $986.90.
    2. Anita Jepson-Gilbert spoke about the Poetry-To-Go contest for teens and the history of the contest. (Our branch began the contest several years ago.) It costs over $2,000.00 to run the contest and have the placards made for putting in buses. Our branch agreed to donate $100.00.
  7. Committee Reports:
    1. Membership:
      1. We have no new members to report.
      2. Colorado Café, where Diane posted our meeting announcements, no longer exists.
      3. Karen Gonzales sent meeting information to many people/sites.
      4. Rachel agreed to engage Facebook Writer’s Groups in hope of promoting our branch. Rachel, Diane, and Linda will talk with each other about this.
    2. Website:
      1. A language translator has been installed on the front page.
      2. Apps and themes for the site have been updated.
      3. Virginia has decided to change the front page graphics every now and then to keep the site fresh.
      4. Virginia is checking into a new updated contact form to help prevent SPAM.
    3. Critique Group: The group has a couple of openings for any member who wants to join.
    4. Historian: Sue doesn’t yet have the collection of our history stuff.
    5. Tapestry for Peace:
      1. Sue has a couple of places in mind where the tapestry sections might be welcomed.
      2. Diane reported that we have two tapestry sections left. She has one, and Ray C. has one.
    6. Programs:
      1. August: Manual Ramos will speak on writing mysteries.
      2. September and October: TBD
      3. Sue suggested having one presentation on journaling and another on Flash Fiction.
      4. Karen Gonzales suggested having Sharon Short come to speak on researching history for writing.
      5. Sue shared that there will be a craft fair at Windcrest in October and that it is free.
      6. Karen Gonzales reported an event, CALMA Lalo Delgado Poetry Fest, will take place on October 5, 2024 at Metro State University.
  8. The meeting was adjourned at10:27.

Following the business meeting, Manual Ramos presented thoughts on writing mysteries.
